You don’t trust the signal.

The woman on the phone never said how long it would take.

But the truck showed up early.

Instead, you sneak into the wheat, crouching low,

A door creaks open.

Footsteps crunch gravel.

He lingers by the driver’s side, then leans into the window.   

Checks the back seat.

Waits...

Then gets back in and drives off.

Time passes. Maybe minutes. Maybe longer.

Then…

brummm

...another vehicle.

This one marked. It flashes its lights: one, two, three.

Shaken by the first man, you wait to see what happens.

The truck pulls away after seeing no one near inside the car.
