I didn’t notice her when she came in. Sat right down in the booth. Haven’t served a customer that I didn’t know in, I couldn’t tell you how long. She asked if we had a phone and I laughed. “Darling, ain’t nobody has a phone here except for Luna.” Of course I told her if she’d seen Luna she’d know those phones are not doing her any good. She asked me the funniest question: how much longer till the sun comes up? I honestly couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen a sunrise. But I think our coffee and pie tastes better in the dark, anyways. I think she’d agree, she had about three of ‘em pies.

If you want my opinion, I think she ran into someone in the woods behind Luna’s place. I try not to go out there myself, she gives me the willies. The night I broke it off with my ex-husband, Joshua, he walked into them woods and never came back. Good riddance.
